Just breathe…

Today I started my day with a new yoga class. A local retail store, Lululemon, regularly holds complimentary classes in their store. On Saturdays they have an 8:30am yoga class before the store opens. It’s amazing, they move all the product displays to the sides and they hold a class in the middle of the store. I walked in 10 minutes early and already the large room was almost full. The lights were dim and calm tropical music was playing.

take time to breathe, you'll thank yourself for it

I found a place to set down my yoga mat and as I looked around the room, I was struck by quotes and sayings written on the walls throughout the store. My favorite?

“…you can choose to throw in the towel, or you can pick it up and wipe your face with it.”

It made me laugh as I tried to hold the warrior 1 pose. The class was taught by a local instructor from CorePower Yoga. It’s been awhile since I have taken a good yoga class. Today was a great one. There is something so powerful about starting your day with a good yoga practice. It forces you to focus on your breath and to leave life outside the door for just an hour. I think yoga is just as much for the mind as it is for the body.  In fact, yoga is about creating harmony between mind and body. Think of it as meditation meets muscle toning and stretching. Try it if you haven’t yet. If you are new to yoga I highly recommend starting with a beginners class so you can get familiar with all the pose names. And for the guys reading this, the class today was almost half men. Both men and women, and people of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from yoga. Just take the time to find the class that works for you. Love yoga like me? Tell us about your favorite classes, products, or whatever you like about yoga.

Namaste.

When the alarm goes off at 6:30AM it is very tempting to hit the snooze button for another hour of sleep. This morning however, I chose to get up early and tap into my mantra & begin my day with Hatha Yoga a local yoga studio. Taking the time to meditate, warm up my muscles, and move through the rhythmic Vinyasa flow of Hatha Yoga gave my day a jumpstart and I felt invigorated all day! Making the effort to practice yoga may seem like a lot of work, but the holistic rewards are worth getting out of bed for!
