Today I spotted an article in the Wall Street Journal discussing the recent phenomenon of unemployed professionals connecting online through the creation of their own blogs. I had just told my husband last night that there must be an entire population of people out of work but with a need to connect and vent about or simply discuss their situation.

As one who was considering the many options for starting my own blog, it was a comforting feeling knowing that others out there are going through the same thing.

Although I intend to write about more than my unemployment status, I think the opportunity to turn your time off into something productive is a huge selling point when interviewing. Especially for marketing and public relations professionals. Your brand is the most important one to promote in these tough economic times.
